Ding Junhui loses seven games in a row to Allen 7-10 in the English Championship

Ding swept O'Sullivan 6-0 in the quarter-finals and knocked out Tom Ford 6-3 in the semi-finals to reach the final of the Championship for the fourth time after 2005, 2009 and 2019 to compete for the title with Mark Allen, who turned back Lissowski 6-5 in the semi-finals. The two have played each other 18 times before, with Ding taking 12 of those victories, so the advantage is still relatively clear.

Ding took the lead in the first game, scoring 52 points with a single shot and missing the last red ball in the middle pocket, but still went over at 61-24. Allen didn't give up to hit the blue ball for snooker and Ding scored the pink ball to win the first set 67-44.

In the second game, Ding scored a red ball from the far side and surrendered possession with only 10 points. Allen also scored just 14 points and gave away his chance with an error on the yellow ball. Ding went up the middle with a red ball and scored 70 points in a single shot to win 80-14.

In the third game Ding again took a quick shot to score 36 points before Allen took a 32 point defensive shot and then got another chance to score 21 points before failing to score the last red ball. Defending for many rounds Allen scored an overhand to go up a set at 68-36. Ding came on strong in the fourth game and scored a 126-point break to go into the break with a clean sweep and a 3-1 win.

After a short adjustment, Ding continued his strong hand in the fifth game, scoring 135 points with a single shot to break 100 for the second consecutive game and extend his advantage 4-1. In the sixth game, Ding took advantage of the paintball to win 5-1 at 67-53.

In the seventh Ding hit his third break of the match, scoring 102 points to win 126-6 and take the match to 6-1. In the eighth game Allen finally made his mark, scoring 79 points to win 86-0. After the first eight games of the first phase, Ding had a 6-2 overall advantage.

In the second period, Allen found his form. In the ninth game, Allen scored 60 points with a single shot to take it 76-33. In the tenth game, Allen scored 93 points with a single shot to seal the deal, and then added another game in the 11th game with a 132-point break. In the 12th game, Allen scored 56 points with a single shot to win another 76-48 to tie up 6-6 coming into the break.

In the 13th game, Allen added another 59 points with a single shot to make it 73-30. In the 14th game, after Allen went into the red ball first, he hit his second break of the game, scoring 109 points to 110-zero and winning seven games in a row from the eighth game to go back ahead 8-6.

In the 15th game, Ding finally stopped the trend and hit his fourth break of the match, scoring 105 points to win 126-0. In the 16th game, Allen scored the first 42 points and Ding only scored one red ball. Allen scored another 32 points to win 74-1 and gain the match point at 9-7.

In the 17th game Ding Junhui advanced the red ball on the far table and got 6 points before missing the red ball. Allen scored 7 points to make a snooker and after Ding solved it, Allen scored the red ball. Both sides tried to attack several times without success, Ding scored 9 points from the far table and chose to continue defending. Allen left a chance and Ding got 27 points to stop the attack. Ding was penalised 8 points for a defensive tug-of-war and Allen scored 8 points on the far side before missing the red ball and Ding scored the red ball before missing the black ball. Allen hit the pink ball to achieve a 60-43 reversal to seal the win.

Ding was defeated 7-10 on aggregate by Mark Allen, missing out on his fourth title at the Championship, while Allen won the event.
